Artist Member Spotlight:
We don’t always take time to get in touch with our creative side, which is why Karen has been championing taking time to explore, play and understand the inherent creativity in each of us over 30 years. During a difficult time in her life, Karen turned to creative expression to light her way.
“When I took a chance on painting classes, I discovered oils and was hooked!” Karen explains. “The beauty of the natural world has always inspired me: the landscape, flowers, gardens and forests.”
Karen is a mixed media artist working in acrylics and oils, discovering new ways to combine mediums and relishing the freedom of embracing different creative styles. The question “what if...” especially lends itself to Karen’s experimenting with acrylic inks.
“When you’re painting with acrylic inks, the pigments are bold, vibrant and very fluid. They seem to tell me where they’d like to go, and as I paint, a beautiful story unfolds before me."
Over the years, Karen has shared her knowledge with students of all levels through a series of art classes focused on self-discovery and creating from the heart. “Teaching others to notice the beauty around them and the joy of creating puts a smile in my heart”.
Karen has exhibited her work at the Deane Center and Soldiers & Sailors Gallery. In May 2017, she will be exhibiting at the Gmiener Art & Cultural Center. Karen has a small gallery and studio on Pickle Hill in Mansfield. Visit her website at karencookeart.com
