Member Spotlight: George Morris Wood Turnings
"I always thought that woodworking would be part of my retirement years and began exploring different disciplines to see where my interests might lie. Woodturning captured my interest and after many years in the construction industry, wood and trees have taken on a whole new meaning and every turning session has its surprises as the wood 'speaks to me.' Since starting with turning in 2004, I have been exploring with a variety of forms, including natural and finished-edged bowls, hollow forms, lidded boxes, platters, Christmas ornaments, and pepper/salt mills. Recently I have been expanding on my embellishment skills.
Currently my work may be seen at the Settlement House Gallery, Sylvania, PA, at Valley Gallery and Gifts, Jersey Shore, PA and at the Crooked River Artisans Co-op in Waverly, NY. Craft shows that I participate in yearly are the PA Laurel Festival in Wellsboro, PA, the PA Apple & Cheese Festival in Canton, PA and the Wallingford (PA) Community Arts Center’s Fine Craft and Pottery Holiday Sale. I am pleased to have had my woodturnings exhibited at previous shows at the Perkins Center, Collingswood, NJ and at Historic Yellow Springs, Yellow Springs, PA. An Honorable Mention ribbon at the 2009 Northeast Woodturners Totally Turning Symposium Instant Gallery in Saratoga Springs, NY was truly a memorable experience."
George creates natural and finished edge bowls, pepper and salt mills, dishes, hollow forms, lidded boxes, and platters.
